Francesca: Initial Training

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

Francesca, my southern flying squirrel, has indeed a voracious appetite. Luckily, in terms of waste management she is on her way to becoming potty trained.

This morning she managed to escape from her unlocked pet crate. The door was closed but not locked, and she somehow managed to open it. She had some diarrhea—to augment that, I added more powder to her milk solution, to make it thicker, while retaining the water. She was trying to crack a sunflower seed open, but all she managed to do is to perforate it.

Some more pictures, by Tori, of Francesca being hand-fed and a video of her crawling around my neck:

Francesca: The Acquisition

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

A few days ago, I received my new pet, Francesca, named after the city of San Francisco, a southern flying squirrel. I bought her from Helen’s Little Critters, and she arrived on October 30, 2007, on an airplane from Texas. Thus far her appetite has been voracious and she seems very healthy. And no, she does not bite, unless she thinks you are food (id est, you smell like apple).

I have a few pictures of her crawling on me, and a video in which I am hand-feeding her milk using a syringe.

All of Francesca’s videos are on YouTube.
